Changing Lanes 2011
The MAPS/FBi 94.5FM Changing Lanes Festival landed in Surry Hills this year, expanding out from last year’s more cosy Newtown setting.
Bleeding Knees Club … my new favourite band.

More shenanigans. Installation by Jesse Willesee.

Another Jesse Willesee installation. Performance from Jack Mannix, of Circle Pit.

Alaska
The Alaskan wilderness is a strange place – absolutely gigantic, strikingly beautiful in a stark, graphic kind of way, and perpetually lit (the sun doesn’t even start thinking about going down until at least 10pm). The kind of place that makes you feel like the most insignificant speck in the universe.
Here’s a few pictures I snapped along the way on our journey from the Denali Highway down to the Kenai Peninsula.
SMAC Awards 2011
Last week I volunteered to snap photos for FBi 94.5FM at the SMAC (Sydney Music Arts & Culture) Awards, held at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. The brief was to capture the live performances, but I ended up shooting most of the actual awards as well. Here are a few of the winners, and some of the bands & performers who took the stage.
Hana Shimada and Jimmy Sing from Goodgod Small Club

Members of Red Riders, Kyu, Bridezilla, Cloud Control & Megastick Fanfare performing, Supergroup-style.

Sleigh Bells
Despite missing out on a photo pass for this show, I still ended up in a great spot down the front where I shot this video during their performance of “Rill Rill” on my iPhone (using the 8mm app).
